Background
 

The Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE) is an annual conference which has been held in Guangzhou (twice), Hong Kong (twice), Macau , Singapore , Taiwan , Beijing , Nanjing , Hawaii . Over 11 years, it has become a major event for scholars and researchers around the globe who are interested in IT education in the Chinese communities.

   
Aims and Objectives
 

The conference serves as an important forum providing a critical opportunity for the researchers and educators to discuss and share ideas on application of computer technology in education. It also aims at enhancing the awareness of employing information and computer technologies in teaching and learning. In addition, participants of the conference will be able to update the current development of information technology and new applications on computer-based education.

   
About GCCCE 2008
 

The 12th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE 2008) will take place at East Lansing , Michigan State University, from May 4 to 8, 2008. To be held in the United States , the conference will provide an opportunity for the researchers and educators from all over the world to discuss problems of ICT and Educational Globa liz ation, and share ideas over computer application in education. The theme of GCCCE 2008 is: ICT and Educational Globa liz ation.

   
Topics of Interest
  Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
 

1. Impact of ICT on Educational Globa liz ation. This topic mainly focuses on the impact of ICT on educational policy, educational forms, the methods of educational organization, etc, and involves educational technology policy and implementation issues within the context of globa liz ation. Issues include: quality standards of on lin e/open universities and their mutual recognition, open-source educational resources, interaction of educational technology policies of different countries.

2. Globalization of computer application in education. This topic mainly focuses on problems which occur during the course of application of ICT in educational practice. Due to the differences in culture, education, and economy between East and West, inevitably their application modes are different. Communication and learning from each other is a way to globa liz ation. Therefore, the conference serves as a platform for the educators from East and West to share their experiences in application of ICT in universities, high schools and elementary schools. Issues include: application mode of ICT, assessment of educational technology, teacher training, challenges of ICT on universities and schools and strategies to solve problems.

3. Globalization of research on application of computers in education. This topic mainly focuses on issues of research and development of educational technology from East and West. Globalization of education means globalization of educational research, so educators and researchers in educational technology should also have a global vision, and learn from each other. The conference provides a platform for researchers from East and West to exchange views and ideas, to discuss the future trends of research on educational technology and research methods, to share common problems occurring in the course of research, and to find opportunities to cooperate.

4. Application of ICT in Chinese and English Teaching. In order to rea liz e globa liz ation, it is also important to improve the communication between different languages, and ICT has exactly great potential in teaching foreign languages. Therefore, the conference will put great emphasis on the effect and value of ICT on CFL (Chinese as a foreign language) and EFL(English as a foreign language) teaching.

Apart from the above four topics, other topics may also be discussed.
